Peter Seers ...History

Peter commenced his career in finance after leaving school in 1978 and has always had an interest in finance and property.  After about 3½ years in the Auckland Savings Bank (ASB) he left New Zealand with his wife to live in Australia.   He obtained employment in Melbourne with the Australian Guarantee Corporation (AGC) which was a subsidiary of the Bank of New South Wales (later to become Westpac).  Peter was employed in the Property Finance division in the Victoria State office.  During his 7+ years there he completed roles in all aspects of residential and commercial property finance lending including:

- Residential and Commercial mortgage finance lending;

- Construction finance – Residential, Commercial and Subdivision;

- Debt collection and Repossessions of all property types;

- Completion of repossessed projects;

- Completing internal valuations of development projects;

- Securities maintenance and creation of all lending documentation.

Peter returned home to New Zealand in 1986 transferring to AGC Christchurch then a year later  transferred to and ran the Auckland Property lending division of AGC.

In 1987 he became a residential and commercial mortgage broker and specialised in investment properties.  Despite being successful over the next 4+ years, with several banks referring clients who were on the verge of repossession.    Peter was able to help them manage through their financial woes and avoid repossession.  However many of these clients forgot to pay him, and he was forced to obtain paid employment.  He lectured at Unitec (initially Carrington Polytechnic) in Business Communication and short courses in Accounting for Business.   He left after about 4 years to take up a full time sales role for a New Zealand exporter, exporting building products to the Pacific Islands.  After about 4 years he set up his own export business and then merged this with a larger company which he ran successfully for several years.   Peter returned to finance in the early 2000s setting up Foresight Investment Ltd in 2003 and Money Science Ltd in 2006.   These provide advice in Insurances and Mortgages and have built to a business providing services mainly to existing clients and referrals, many who we now call friends.  Peters work experience has always centred around Property and Finance, which he is passionate about.   He is committed to assisting clients understand their finances and risks, and is prepared to invest time to assist them with explanations and examples, or to consider alternatives.  

Peter and his wife Deryn own the two companies they work under (Money Science Ltd & Foresight Investment Ltd) and receive their income through these companies.   The businesses receive commissions from lenders for placement of loans and also may receive “trail” or “Servicing” commissions based on a percentage of the loan amount outstanding.   This could present a conflict of interest, as income could differ from different lenders, however the lenders that pay trail commissions have lower up front commissions to compensate for this.   The Money Science business has been built on the understanding that clients prefer to have a single contact for ongoing servicing, support and advice, and means that our advice and loan servicing can be provided without charging our clients.
